How do I configure a dial-up connection for Mac OS X?

This article will aid you in setting up a dial-up connection on a Mac running OS X, 10.2 and above.

- On the Toolbar, click the Apple icon and select System Preferences.
- Click Network. The Network preferences appears.

- In Show:, select Internal Modem.
- In Location:, select New Location.
- Type a name for the location. Click OK.

- Click PPP.
- In Service Provider: , type WildBlue
- In Account Name:, type the primary account email address. For example, john@wildblue.net.
- In Password:, type the password for the primary account email address. Note: Passwords are case-sensitive. Ensure your caps lock key is Disabled.
- In Telephone Number:, type the local access number that you've located on the WB Dial-up web page.
Note: AT&T customers get their dial-up access from Yahoo!
- Check Save password.

In the Session Options: section, consider enabling Connect automatically when needed, and Prompt every 30 minutes ... These two options may be helpful when using your dial-up service.

Enable any other Session Options to your liking.

In the Advanced Options: section, check Send PPP echo packets, and Use TCP header compression. You can leave all other Advanced Options Disabled.

Click OK.

In Configure IPv4:, select Using PPP.

- In Configure Proxies:, select Manually.
- Select Web Proxy (HTTP).
- Type http://wpad.wildblue.com/wpad.dat as the Web Proxy Service.
- Type 80 in the Port number (see screen shot).

In Modem, select the installed modem, if necessary. Mac should do this automatically.

Select Enable error correction and compression in modem.

Select Wait for dial tone before dialing.

For Dialing, select the type of dial tone you have. Most phone companies use Tone.

For Sound, select On if you want to hear the modem dial.
