Configuring a Dial-up Connection for Windows 2000

  1. On the Desktop, click the Start button and select Settings
  2. Select Network and Dial-Up Connections from the menus.

    The Network and Dial-up Connection window appears.
  3. Double click the Make New Connection icon.

    The Network Connection Wizard begins.
  4. Click the Next button to continue.

  5. Select the option Dial-up to the Internet.
  6. Click the Next button to continue.

    The Internet Connection Wizard begins.
  7. Select the option I want to set up my Internet connection manually, or I want to connect through a local area network (LAN).
  8. Click the Next button to continue.

  9. Select the option Connect using my phone line.
  10. Click the Next button to continue.

  11. Select the option Create a new dial-up connection.
  12. Click the Next button to continue.
    Note: If there are no other connections set up, you go directly to the next screen.

  13. Area code = Leave the area code field blank
  14. Telephone number = Enter the Access number you use to connect to the Internet.
  15. Country/region name and code = Leave blank.
  16. Uncheck the box Dial using the area code and country code.
  17. Click the Advanced button.

    The Advanced Connection Properties
    window appears.
  18. Select the Connection tab.

    Connection type:
  19. Check the box Disable LCP Extensions

  20. Select the Addresses tab.

    IP address:

    Leave this option set to Internet service provider automatically provides one.

    DNS server address:
  21. Select the option Always use the following.
  22. Enter the Primary DNS server = 209.210.176.8
  23. Enter the Alternate DNS server = 209.210.176.9
  24. Click the OK button when finished.

    We return to the following screen:
  25. Click the Next button to continue.

  26. In the User name field enter the complete dial-up username (john@wildblue.net) provided by your ISP.
  27. In the Password field enter your dial-up password provided by your ISP.
    Note: Passwords are case-sensitive. Ensure your Caps Lock is off.
  28. Click the Next button to continue.

  29. In the Connection name field leave the name as it is or change it to something more descriptive, such as WildBlue dial-up.
  30. Click the Next button to continue.

  31. In the Set Up Your Internet Mail Account select No.
  32. Click the Next button to continue.

  33. Click the Finish button to complete the Internet Connection Wizard.
