Configuring Mac Mail

Summary

Use this article to configure Mac Mail to send and receive email messages through a wildblue.net account.

Rules

Prerequisites

  1. Users must have an active wildblue.net email account.
  2. Enable POP3 settings inside the Gmail interface.

Preferences

Macmail
  1. Open Apple Mail
  2. Click Mail on the top bar. Then click Preferences from the drop-down menu.

Add Account

  1. Click the Accounts tab at the top, then click the plus sign (+) along the bottom to add a new account. The General Information page appears.

General Information

  1. Select POP from Account Type:
  2. Type the Account Description.
  3. Type the Full Name.
  4. Type the full email address including the @wildblue.
  5. Click Continue. The Incoming Mail Server page appears.

Incoming Mail Server

  1. Type pop.gmail.com in the section labeled Incoming Mail Server.
  2. Type your WildBlue user name (including @wildblue.net) in the User Name field.
  3. Type the WildBlue password in the Password field.
  4. Click Continue. The Outgoing Mail Server page appears.

Outgoing Mail Server

  1. Type smtp.gmail.com in the Outgoing Mail Server field.
    Note: Click the down arrow to select the server from the list.  It appears there only if other gmail accounts have been configured on this computer.
  2. Check Use Authentication.
  3. Type your WildBlue user name (including @wildblue.net) in the User Name field.
  4. Type the WildBlue password in the Password field.
  5. Click Continue.  The Account Summary screen appears.

  6. Click Continue. The Accounts screen reappears.

Account Page - Configure SMTP Server

  1. On the Account Information screen, click Server Settings. The configuration page appears.

  2.  Type 465 into the section labeled Server Port.
  3. Check Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).
  4. Select Password for the Authentication.
  5. Type your WildBlue user name (including @wildblue.net) and password.
  6. Click OK.

  7. Click the Advanced tab and check Use SSL. The port changes to 995.
  8. Exit the Accounts page and click Save to finalize the settings.

Troubleshooting SMTP servers

Sometimes there are too many SMTP servers listed in Mac Mail, and this may make it difficult to send email.  If this happens, you can clean out unused SMTP servers

  1. From the Safari menu, select Preferences Picture
  2. On the Account Information tab, select the down arrow for Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP):.

  3. Click Edit Servier List...

  4. Highlight each unused Server Name, and click Remove Server.
  5. When finished, click Done.
