How to switch between Dial-up access and the Satellite Modem

Summary

This article describes how a ViaSat user can switch between the satellite modem and a dial-up connection or vice versa.

Rules

Prerequisites

  1. Created Dial-up connection in Windows VistaWindows XP, or Mac OS X
  2. Closed all browser windows.

Switching from the Satellite Modem to Dial-up Access

  1. Disconnect the modem power supply cable from the wall outlet.

    Note: Do not remove the cable from the modem.
  2. Disconnect the Ethernet cable from the computer.

    Note: Do not remove the Ethernet cable from the modem.
  3. Connect the phone line between the computer and the phone jack on the wall.

Switching from Dial-up Access to the Satellite Modem

  1. Remove the phone line from the computer.
  2. Verify the Satellite Modem is unplugged from the wall outlet.
  3. Connect the Ethernet cable from the Satellite Modem to the computer.
  4. Plug the Satellite Modem power supply into the wall outlet.
  5. Open the browser to connect to the Internet after the Satellite Modem locks the satellite signal (the second light from the top on the modem will display solid).
