Configuring a New Computer for WildBlue Service

Summary

Configuring a new or replacement computer for use with a WildBlue satellite modem requires running the WildBlue Optimizer, configuring a email client, and optionally, moving the Ethernet cable.

Connecting Satellite Modem (optional)

If the new computer is to act as the main computer for the WildBlue service, the satellite modem must be moved from the original computer.

  1. Unplug the satellite modem from the wall.
    Note: Do not disconnect the satellite modem from the power block when the cable is still connected to the wall outlet. Disconnecting from the power block may cause damage to the satellite modem.
  2. Power down both the new and the original computers.
  3. Locate the Ethernet cable on the satellite modem, and follow it to the original computer.
  4. Disconnect the Ethernet cable from the original computer, and note the jack type on the computer's rear panel.
  5. Locate the same jack type on the new computer, and plug in the Ethernet cable.
  6. Plug in the satellite modem. Wait for the modem to lock. The RX light is solid green when the modem locks.
  7. Power on the new computer.

Configuring the New Computer

Optional:
If the computer was connected to another Internet service provider, reconfigure Windows XP DHCP settings.

Required:

WildBlue Direction customers - download and install the WildBlue Optimizer 

AT&T customers - download and install the AT&T Optimizer.

Note: Instructions for configuring other popular browsers such as Netscape or Firefox are available in the Knowledge Base. Type the browser name in the Search box, and click Search >.

Configure an Email Client

Instructions for configuring popular email clients, such as Outlook, Mac Mail, etc. are available in the Knowledge Base. Type the email client name into the Search box, and click Search > .

Note: The WildBlue Optimizer automatically configures Outlook Express 6, if it is present on the computer.
