Why is WildBlue requiring customers to change email passwords to 8 characters?

In late February, WildBlue is transitioning all customers' email accounts to Google's Gmail. WildBlue is sending communications to customers who currently have email passwords consisting of less than 8 characters, asking them to update it. Gmail requires an 8 character email password to provide added security to the accounts.

By changing a password to 8 characters now, customers will aid in a smooth transition to the Google email servers. If the customers who received the communication fail to update their password(s) before the migration happens, they will need to create a new password immediately upon logging into the Google based Customer Portal page.

Customers who use an email client will need to change the password within the client as well in order to continue downloading email.
