Some Belkin routers are experiencing problems with their DHCP client that affects the WildBlue service. Customers with this router may encounter periodic service and connection interruptions due to a bug within the Belkin firmware. While WildBlue does not support routers or other third party hardware we are providing this information to assist our customers in resolving this issue. If at any point you encounter problems, please contact Belkin for further assistance. Our agents are not trained in and cannot provide router support.
This problem can be resolved by upgrading the firmware on the Belkin N router. The upgrade process takes only a few minutes and is easily performed.
To identify if you have one of the routers effected, look at the bottom of the Belkin router to determine its Model/Version Number. If any of the following are listed, please update the router's firmware as described:

NOTE: If the router needs a firmware upgrade, an administrative password is needed to get into and change the router's settings.
-- If the router's password is unknown, the default password can often be found on the bottom of the router.
-- If the router password has been changed, you will need to know the password to get into the router's settings.
-- If the password is unknown and a default is not listed on the bottom of the router and/or the listed default doesn't work,
you should call Belkin for password assistance prior to completing the steps below.
Instructions for Upgrading the Belkin Firmware:
- Connect a computer to the Belkin router via Ethernet Cable or a wireless connection to the router. (If the router is currently hooked up and in use, skip this step.)
- Open the computer's web browser.
- In the browser's web address bar at the top of the screen, type http://192.168.2.1 then press Enter.

This is the default IP address assigned to Belkin routers.
If using the address 192.168.2.1 doesn't display a user to log into the router's set-up, do the following:
- Check for a changed router address:
- From the DOS prompt perform an "ipconfig" lookup to determine the new IP address.
- Use the address labeled "default gateway" under "Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection" in place of 192.168.2.1.
- After using the default gateway address, if the user still isn't prompted to log into the router's setup screen, check to make sure in Local Area Connection Properties the TCP/IP properties are set to "obtain an IP address automatically."

- A prompt appears asking for the router's administrative password. Enter the password and click on the "submit" button to continue.
- The Belkin router setup displays. In the details under the "Version Info" section on this screen and you will see the Firmware Version.
- For the versions noted below download the listed firmware version or higher:

- If you need a firmware update, leave this window open and follow the steps listed below.
Note: Make sure to write down any personal router or wireless configuration information before changing anything just in case the firmware upgrade changes the settings back to its original defaults.

- First, make sure the PC's firewall is disabled.
- To upgrade the router's firmware, download the newest release from the Belkin website by doing the following:
- Using the web browser, open a new browser window to get the firmware upgrades from Belkin's product support website at http://www.belkin.com/support/article/?lid=en&pid=F5D8233-4&aid=9101&scid=942
- Depending on the router version, click the arrow button next to the most recent firmware release for that version.
- On the popup shows the file download has completed, click the "save" button. A system window popup asks where to save the file. For convenience, save it to the computer's desktop.
- Once the popup shows the file download has completed, close or minimize the browser and go back to the Router Setup.
- In the left-hand side menu, click "Firmware Update" under the "Utilities" section.
- A prompt appears asking for the router's administrative password. Re-enter the router's administration password and click on the "submit" button to continue.
- When the "Utilities > Firmware Update" screen displays, click the "browse" button next to "Update firmware>".
- Select from the open file system popup the driver file just downloaded to the desktop and click the "Open" button.
- The text box should now show the firmware's file name and location, for example: c:\downloads\f5d8233-4v3_ww_3.01.17.bin.
- Click "Update" on the Belkin router setup screen just below the text box showing the file name and location.
- A pop up box requests confirmation to continue with the upgrade; click the "OK" button to continue.
- A final message states the router may be unresponsive for as long as one minute after the upgrade.
- Verify the new firmware version shows in the router setup screen. If needed, change defaults back to personal router settings.
