Deleting the Browsing History

Internet Explorer 8 gives you more control over your browsing history. In order to take advantage of this control, you may want to delete your history selectively. Basically, delete one type of history, and then check your issue again.

You may also opt to delete everything at once. In this case, make certain that the top checkbox is empty, and the others are selected.

I E Delete Browsing

  1. Begin by removing the checkmarks from History, Temporary Internet Files, and Cookies. Leave Preserve Favorites website data checked.
  2. Check History, and click Delete. Recheck your issue.
Note: This resets all links on websites to their default coloring, etc. This wipes away the evidence of previous visits to a site.
  3. Check Temporary Internet Files, and click Delete. Recheck your issue.
Note: This may take a few minutes if there is a large cache of files.
  4. Check Cookies, and click Delete. Recheck your issue.

Note: Deleting cookies in this manner removes cookies you may wish to save, but which are not part of your Favorites. Some web sites remember your user name and password with a cookie. You may wish to try clearing the History and deleting Temporary Files BEFORE deleting Cookies.
  5. Uncheck Preserve Favorites website data, and click Delete.
Note: This removes cookies and temporary files associated with websites in your Favorites lists. These were not removed during the previous steps.
